What Are Braces?

Braces are orthodontic appliances used to straighten teeth, correct bite issues, and improve overall oral health.

What Do Braces Treat?

Braces can treat almost any orthodontic concern, including:

  • Crowding: When there isn’t enough space in the jaw for teeth to fit properly, often due to early loss of baby teeth, a small jaw, or larger teeth.
  • Overbite: When the upper front teeth extend too far over the lower front teeth.
  • Underbite & Crossbite: Types of bite misalignments where the lower teeth extend beyond the upper teeth (underbite), or where some upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth (crossbite).
  • Spacing or Gaps: Unwanted spaces between teeth, often seen between the upper front teeth.
  • Crooked Teeth: Teeth that are misaligned due to crowding, jaw shape or size, or irregular tooth development.
  • Open Bite: When the upper and lower teeth don’t make contact when the mouth is closed.
  • Misalignment: General imbalance or improper positioning of the upper and lower teeth.

What Are The Benefits of Braces?

Braces are especially effective for complex cases and offer a number of long term benefits, such as:

  • Improved confidence with a straighter smile
  • Better oral health through easier cleaning and alignment
  • Enhanced bite function for more comfortable chewing and speaking
  • Long-lasting results with proper follow up care

How Do Braces Work?

Braces use small brackets attached to your teeth and connected by an archwire. This wire applies gentle pressure over time, guiding your teeth into their ideal positions. As your teeth move, the bone surrounding them reshapes to support their new alignment resulting in a beautifully balanced smile and properly functioning bite.

Types of Braces We Offer

Clear Ceramic Braces

We use Clarity™ ADVANCE Clear Braces, made from a translucent ceramic material that blends in naturally with your teeth. They offer the reliable results of traditional braces with a more discreet, low-profile look making them a great option for patients who want effective treatment without the appearance of metal.

Traditional Metal Braces

Metal braces are the most common choice for children and teens. They work by bonding brackets to the teeth and connecting them with a thin archwire. Small elastic ties hold the wire in place, and together, this system applies gentle pressure to gradually guide the teeth into proper alignment.

WildSmiles® Braces

Why settle for ordinary when you can make your braces as unique as you are? With WildSmiles®, you can customize your smile by choosing fun bracket shapes like hearts, stars, footballs, and more! It’s a great way for kids and teens to express their personality while getting the same effective orthodontic treatment.

Frequently Question & Answer

Orthodontic treatment can begin at almost any age. While many patients start between ages 10–14 (once most permanent teeth have come in), adults can also benefit from braces. We also offer early evaluations and treatment for younger children to catch issues before they become more serious.

Yes, to protect your braces and avoid damage, we recommend avoiding sticky, hard, or crunchy foods like gum, caramel, popcorn, and ice. We’ll provide a full list of what to enjoy and what to avoid to keep your treatment on track.

Absolutely! If you play sports, we’ll recommend a custom mouthguard to protect your braces and teeth. If you play an instrument, there may be a short adjustment period, but most patients adapt quickly.

Not at all with a little practice! We’ll show you how to brush and floss around your braces to keep your teeth and gums healthy throughout treatment. Good hygiene is key to getting great results.

You may feel some mild soreness or pressure after adjustments, but this is temporary and a sign your braces are working. We’ll give you tips to stay comfortable every step of the way.
